Salman Rushdie. A Deleuzian
Reading. Af Søren
Frank. 288 sider, 15,5 x 23 cm. Pris kr 165,00. Museum Tusculanums
Forlag. Udgivet 2011.
En oversættelse af Salman
Rushdies kartografi (2003). Oversat af Sten Pultz Moslund. "However,
before going through the process of being translated, I made a general
revision of the original Danish manuscript"(Preface).
Denne bog er et originalt
bidrag til studiet af Salman Rushdie. I bogen analyserer Søren
Frank fem af Rushdies romaner - Grimus, Midnatsbørn,
Skam, De sataniske vers og Jorden under hendes fødder.
"How to enter Salman
Rushdie's body of works? It is a rhizome! Gilles Deleuze and Félix
Guattari open their book on Franz Kafka with a similar question and assertion.
This book will show that the concept of rhizome also characterises Salman
Rushdie's works. In order to do so, I will analyse five of Rushdie's novels,
namely the first four, Grimus, Midnight's Children,
Shame and The Satanic Verses, and The Ground Beneath
Her Feet, the seventh of altogether ten novels. Accordingly, the
substance of this book is analytical and it provides the reader with thorough
readings of Rushdie's novels in regard to themes, form and enunciation;
but apart from this basically analytical disposition, the actual originality
of the book consists in drawing up a general angle of entrance into Rushdie's
writings based on the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze's conceptual apparatus.
It is my intention with the book to show how Deleuze's combination of
an empiricist 'worldliness' and a conceptual constructivism that formalises
specific processes of becoming corresponds to traits in Rushdie's artistic
profile, just as I will try to incorporate a number of central concepts
from Deleuze's writings into the analyses - concepts such as rhizome,
simulacrum and lines of flight - in a way which is, hopefully, conducive
to a further opening up of Rushdie's novels"(Introduction).
I første omgang
for alvor bredes ud i Rushdies efterfølgende værker. Derefter
I bogen får læseren
